Badger Bites: First Austrian-born player to wear the Badger uniform • drafted in the fifth round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft by Philadelphia (150th overall pick) • name is pronounced BEHRND BRUEK (like in group) - ler • birthdate is 9/26/81 • shoots left • graduated from Kearney High School in Kearney, Nebraska in May, 2001 • plans on majoring in business • mother is Doris • has a younger brother Klaus (18).

2001-02/Freshman Season: Saw action in 18 games for the UW, including starting in a playoff win over MSU, Mankato • recorded a shutout in his first ever game as a Badger, making 25 saves in a 5-0 win over Wayne State -- first goalie since 1992 (Jim Carey) to have a shutout in his debut • made a career-high 50 saves in a 5-5 tie at Colorado College in February • finished the season ranked fifth in the WCHA in save percentage (.917) and seventh in goals-against average (3.08) in all games • his .917 save percentage ranks as the fourth-best in a season in school history • was first among WCHA rookie goaltenders in goals-against average, save percentage, wins and minutes played • Awards & Honors: selected to the 2001-02 all-WCHA Rookie Team • was honored as the WCHA and U.S. College Hockey Online Player of the Week for his play vs. St. Cloud State on Jan. 25-26 (1-0-1, 3 GA, 57 saves) • earned WCHA Rookie of the Week honors on Mar. 4 for his 47 saves in win over Minnesota-Duluth on Mar. 2.

Before He Was a Badger: Spent the 2000-01 season playing for the Tri-City Storm of the USHL (joined the Storm in mid-December) • during the regular season, Bruckler was 16-8-3 in 28 games with a 2.48 goals-against average and a .918 save percentage • in seven playoff games, he was 3-4-0 with a 2.74 GAA and a .924 save percentage • was the USHL’s Goalie of the Month in February of 2001, going 5-2-2 with a .934 save percentage and a 2.05 goals-against average that month • was a USHL second-team all star • finished the year third in the Goalies’ World Magazine/Louisville Hockey Top-10 USHL goaltender standings, despite playing in 17 fewer games than the first- and second-ranked goalies • previous team was the Graz ‘99 ers.
