2001: Earned first varsity letter as a true freshman … played in 11 of 12 games … drew starting nod at nose guard in each of last two games vs. Michigan and at Minnesota … also started at tackle vs. Michigan State … registered 16 tackles, including four TFLs for five yards in losses … made six stops in each of final two contests vs. Wolverines and Golden Gophers … two tackles and a QB hurry vs. Michigan State … had three TFLs and a QB hurry at Minnesota … recovered a fumble vs. Michigan.
High School: Named to USA Today and Reebok/ESPN first-team All-America squad at Hamden … also a member of PrepStar “Dream Team” and SuperPrep first-team All-America unit … participated in the National High School All-Star game in Dallas … No. 9 prospect nationally by Tom Lemming’s Prep Football Report … second-ranked defensive player in the country according to Lemming … No. 2 rated DL nationally by CBS Sportsline … three-time all-state … registered 102 solo tackles, 17 sacks and seven forced fumbles as a senior … career totals of more than 250 tackles, 38 tackles for loss, 30 quarterback sacks and 14 recovered fumbles … coach was Tony Martone.
