Series Notes
Wisconsin is riding a seven-game
unbeaten streak (6-0-1), the
program’s longest since going 14 games
unbeaten (12-0-2) from Oct. 21-Dec. 3,
2005.
The Badgers are 10-1-2 in their
last 13 games after starting the season
0-6-1 through seven games.
The Badgers are 5-0-1 on the
current home stand and are in the
midst of an eight-game home unbeaten
streak (7-0-1).
Wisconsin sits 3-2-1 in non-conference
action this season and will look to improve that key statistic for NCAA selection. The UW is 0-2-0
against Hockey East, 1-0 against College
Hockey America and 2-0-1 against
the CCHA.
The Badgers have allowed two
goals or less in each game during their
current seven-game unbeaten streak,
including three shutouts.
During that time, senior goaltender
Shane Connelly has climbed
the league rankings and now sits third
in winning percentage at .618 (9-5-3),
fifth with a 2.38 goals-against average
and sixth with a .918 save percentage.
Wisconsin has allowed more
than three goals just once in its last 14
games and a total of six goals in its last
seven games.
The Badgers captured the 2008
Badger Hockey Showdown title last
Sunday night with a 1-1 tie and then
a 1-0 victory in the shootout against
Lake Superior State. Wisconsin advanced
to the finals with a 5-0 victory
over Alabama-Huntsville. The tournament victory was the 10th Showdown championship for the
Badgers in 20 years of the tournament
and first since 2005.
For the seventh consecutive season
and for the 10th time in 11 years,
the Badgers have players skating in the World Junior Championship. Sophomore defensemen Ryan McDonagh (USA) and Cody Goloubef (Canada) are skating in the 2009 IIHF World Junior Championship
in Ottawa, Ontario from Dec. 26-Jan 5. The duo will miss their second consecutive
UW weekend while away at the tournament.
Last year, then-Badger Kyle Turris won gold with Team Canada at the World
Juniors, while Blake Geoffrion and Jamie McBain played for Team USA.
