Hughes is Big Ten's Player of the Week

After leading the Wisconsin Badgers back on the college basketball landscape with an upset win over Duke, senior guard Trevon Hughes grabs his first Big Ten Player of the Week honor.

MADISON - Senior Trevon Hughes was named Big Ten Player of the Week, announced the Big Ten Conference on Monday, following his performances in a pair of wins over No. 6 Duke and Grambling State.

Hughes averaged 23.0 points per game last week, including a career-high 26 points vs. Duke, which proved to be influential in the Wisconsin's win and in helping the Big Ten capture its first-ever Big Ten/ACC Challenge title. Hughes scored 19 of his 26 points in the second half, connecting on four 3-pointers vs. the Blue Devils and adding two rebounds, two assists, one block and one steal. The point guard followed up that performance with 20 points, a career-high seven rebounds, four assists, two blocks and one steal vs. Grambling State.

This is Hughes' first Player of the Week honor and Wisconsin's first since Joe Krabbenhoft took home the accolade on Feb. 16, 2009. He is the first UW guard to win the honor since Kammron Taylor on Jan. 15, 2007.

Hughes is tied for sixth in the Big Ten averaging 16.7 points per game. He has posted back-to-back 20-point games for the third time in his career and owns 10 20-point outings in his career. The senior has never had three consecutive games of 20 points or more. Hughes is also currently riding a streak of six-straight games in double figures, matching his longest such streak.
