Havenstein: "The Atmosphere was Crazy"

Having already made an unofficial visit to Wisconsin over the summer, Linganore High offensive tackle Robby Havenstein wanted to bring his parents on an official visit to Wisconsin (one of his top five schools), a visit that lived up to the hype.

MADISON - After he visited the University of Wisconsin campus for the first time over the summer, Linganore offensive tackle Robby Havenstein knew the Badgers would make it into his top five.

But after having such a great time visiting the campus by himself, Havenstein knew that he had to bring his parents on an official visit to get the full Wisconsin experience. Thankfully, he wasn't disappointed.

"I wanted to bring them and it was really a trip," Havenstein told Badger Nation Sunday night. "The game atmosphere there is awesome, along with everything else. Several of the coaches visited with me for a little bit, which was also cool. I think they (my parents) were real impressed. It's a first-rate school and handle everything real well. My mom actually loved the atmosphere."

Rated as a three-star prospect and the 47th-best offensive tackle in the nation by Scout.com, Havenstein is reportedly the Badgers top offensive lineman on their recruiting board, not surprising seeing as the 6-foot-7, 340-pound tackle fits the mold of a Wisconsin lineman.

"They told me that I was big for their program," Havenstein said. "They told me that my size and abilities fit what they like to do at Wisconsin, which made me pleased."

One of the best things that stood out to Havenstein on his summer trip with his uncle to visit his cousin (who attends UW) was meeting with UW's offensive line during a weight-room workout. This time, Havenstein finally got to experience the game-day atmosphere his recruiting coach, Kerry Cooks, had been telling him about.

"They told me the game atmosphere is crazy, which it was," Havenstein said. "It's awesome to watch a game there."

Hosted by freshman offensive lineman Travis Frederick, Havenstein was treated to a plethora of information about what the first couple weeks are like in the program, the hard work that is needed and how that work can provide opportunities immediately.

"Being a freshman and starting his first game, I thought that was really cool and really hard to do," Havenstein said. "Travis is a real good guy. He was a fun guy that provided a lot of information that helped me."

Already having visited Maryland, Penn State and Virginia on unofficial visits multiple times, Havenstein's only other planned official visit is to the other member of his top five (Wake Forest) next weekend, although he hasn't ruled out taking an official to the other three schools. Originally planning on making his final December after the season, Havenstein has slightly backed off that plan.

"It might not take me that long," he said. "If I feel pretty comfortable with a place, I will go ahead and commit."
