Although it wasn't easy by any means, the Badgers, who trailed the entire game, managed to find a way to win, thanks to three missed extra points and an overtime touchdown by John Clay, to help UW beat Cal Poly, 36-35, in the regular season finale.

First Half

First Quarter

7-0 Cal Poly

11 plays, 60 yards 6:01 TOP, 6:13 remaining

Ryan Mole two-yard run (Andrew Gardner kick)

Key Play: If this is a sign of things to come, it's going to be a long day for Wisconsin. After throwing a pass on the opening possession, Cal Poly ran 10 straight times, marching 60 yards right down the field. The Mustangs faced only one third down and it was third-and-one.

Second Quarter

13-0 Cal Poly

1 plays, 40 yards 8:42 remaining

Tre'dale Tolver returned punt for 40 yards (kick failed)

Key Play: Wisconsin's offensive line is not giving Sherer any protection. On third and one, Sherer was sacked and Nortman was forced to punt from deep in his end zone. The result - a quick 35-yard punt and an even quicker punt return by Tolver.

13-7 Cal Poly

6 plays, 64 yards 2:25 TOP, 6:13 remaining

John Clay 17-yard run (Phil Welch kick)

Key Play: John Clay makes up for his earlier fumble by getting UW back in the game. When the hole closed up the middle, Clay bounced it outside and there was no Mustang defender close to him.

20-7 Cal Poly

10 plays, 71 yards 4:46 TOP, 1:14 remaining

Jonathan Dally two-yard run (Gardner kick)

Key Play: John Clay makes up for his earlier fumble by getting UW back in the game. When the hole closed up the middle, Clay bounced it outside and there was no Mustang defender close to him.

Nick Toon 28 pass from Sherer(Gardner kick)

Key Play: Nick Toon showed tremendous concentration after Xavier Gardner broke up the pass attempt. Unfortunately for Gardner, the pass went straight up in the air and Toon hauled it in with no defender close to him.

Second Half

Third Quarter

23-14 Cal Poly

15 plays, 58 yards 8:49 TOP, 2:32 remaining

FG Andrew Gardner 35

Key Play: On fourth-and-three from the UW 26, Cal Poly rolled the dice. QB Jonathan Dally faked the hand off and blindly rolled around the left side of his offense. No Badger was close and Dally gained eight yards to move the chains.

23-21 Cal Poly

4 plays, 80 yards 1:17 TOP, 1:11 remaining

P.J. Hill 10-yard run (Welch kick)

Key Play: Whenever Cal Poly scores on a long, sustained drive, the Badgers are quick to answer. On the first play from scrimmage, Sherer hit a wide-open David Gilreath for 49 yards down to the Cal Poly 31. Three plays later, the Badgers were in the end zone.

Fourth Quarter

29-21 Cal Poly

15 plays, 76 yards 7:55 TOP, 8:12 remaining

James Noble two-yard run (kick failed)

Key Play: Cal Poly was all ready to kick a 38-yard field goal until O'Brien Schofield was flagged for being in the neutral zone on fourth-and-six. With no one guarding the center, Dally ran right up the middle for the first down.

29-29 tie

9 plays, 89 yards 2:18 TOP, 1:42 remaining

P.J. Hill three-yard run (Hill run)

Key Play: John Clay with a mighty stiff arm that gave him a gain of 27 yards to put UW down inside the three-yard line.

1 play, 25 yards

Ramses Barden 20-yard catch from Dally (kick failed)

36-35 Wisconsin
