Devin Smith
, a 5-foot-11, 185-pound, cornerback, from Coppell, Texas, visited
Wisconsin
this past weekend and found the perfect fit. Smith chose the Badgers over
Iowa
,
Vanderbilt
and
Oklahoma State
.
“Wisconsin had the best combination of academics, athletics and social scene that I was looking for,” Devin Smith told Badger Nation. “Some schools had one or maybe two of the three attributes that I was looking for in a school but in the end, Wisconsin had everything I was looking for.”
Smith had a great time on his recent trip to Madison.
“The weather didn’t bother me much,” he said. “I’ve been in cold weather before. I had a great visit.
Jay Valai
was my host and we got along great.
“While on campus, I got the chance to meet an engineering professor, I spoke with academic counselors, met with academic advisors and last but not least we met the strength and conditioning coach.
“The football banquet was really nice. After the banquet I just hung out with Jay and took it easy. Saturday we went to the basketball game. All-in-all, it was great visit. It was more than I expected and I’m happy to be a Badger.”
Smith put up some impressive numbers in 2007. He had 40 solo tackles, five interceptions and returned three picks for touchdowns. Devin had 23 receptions for 470 yards on the offensive side of the ball.
Devin Smith will graduate from Coppell in early June and he plans on being in Madison less than a week after graduation. He plans on majoring in engineering.
