It's All About Team

SG Robert Wilson

The Badger basketball squad has a verbal commitment from Garfield Heights, Ohio shooting guard Robert Wilson. Badger Nation interviewed Garfield Heights head coach Sonny Johnson and asked him what the Wisconsin faithful can expect from his #1 recruit.

"Robert is a great player and I feel he picked a school (Wisconsin) that will utilize his talents to the fullest potential." Coach Johnson told Badger Nation.

"What I think Wisconsin will like the most about Robert is that he's a team player. He did average about 20ppg last year for us last year but he's unselfish and he's more interested in winning instead of padding his stats.

"Robert is the total package. He's being recruited as a shooting guard but he can play either the 2 or 3 positions on the floor. Robert can score, rebound and pass. He's a talented young man.

"Robert can post up and he's also got a very good mid-range game. He's been a starter for us since his freshman year."

We asked Coach Wilson which schools were in the hunt for Wilson's services before he gave Wisconsin his verbal commitment.

"Penn State and Xavier were high on Robert's list." Coach Johnson said. "Cincinnati and Dayton were also in the mix but once Robert got the chance to see Wisconsin and talk to the coaches up there, it was all over.

"It definitely helped Wisconsin that they were one of the top programs in the country last year. Bo Ryan is a great coach and Robert really liked how Coach Ryan and the rest of the staff recruited him.

"Wisconsin plays in the Big Ten and they have great fans, excellent facilities and they offer a wonderful education."
