Ohio Lineman Ready For Visit

Jake Current Update

Ohio's Jake Current committed to the Badges back in June and the 6-3, 280-pounder, from Troy is getting ready for his official visit. Current talks about his official visit date, his upcoming big game against rival Piqua and more.

"The plan is for me to make my official visit this weekend for the Citadel game." Jake Current told Badger Nation.

"I wanted to go to a game that won't have a ton of recruits at it. There will be a ton of recruits at the Iowa and Michigan and this coming weekend it will be more relaxed and I'll get the chance to talk to the coaches and players."

Current didn't get his first scholarship offer from the Badgers but he didn't wait long to commit to Wisconsin once they offered.

"Miami (Ohio) was the first school to offer back in the spring," Current said. "Indiana, Maryland and Cincinnati came after that. When Wisconsin offered, I was really excited and wanted to visit the school right away.

"I was familiar with Wisconsin from the start because my former teammate, Shane Carter, is on the team. Shane had a lot of great things to say about the program and everything fell into place once I made an unofficial visit.

"Wisconsin has great coaches, great academics, a very good offensive line tradition, excellent academic support and about a million more positives. I knew I couldn't go wrong with the Badgers so I gave Coach Bielema my commitment."

Current wants to get his official visit out of the way because he wants to focus on an important game in October.

"We got Piqua coming up," he said. "They are without a doubt our biggest rival and I actually broke in and played my first varsity game as a freshman against Piqua. That's always a great game."

Jake Current was named all-conference and all-district as a sophomore and as a junior. The recruiting efforts for Current are led by Badgers assistant coach Bob Palcic.

Current carries a 3.9 GPA in the classroom and scored 22 on his ACT.
