Donovan Earns Conference Honor

Fifth-year season and first-year starter Tyler Donovan earns his third-career win on Saturday and earns his first-career player of the week honor Monday.

MADISON - After leading the Badgers past Washington State 42-21 on Saturday, the Big Ten named Wisconsin QB Tyler Donovan Co-Player of the Week. Donovan shared the honor with Michigan State running back Jehuu Caulcrick.

Donovan, a Hartland, Wis. native, set career highs with 19 completions, 29 attempts and three touchdown passes in only his third career start. The senior QB threw for 284 yards, completed 65.5 percent of his passes and also ran for a touchdown, accounting for four of the Badgers’ six touchdowns.

In the first quarter, Donovan led two touchdown scoring drives including a 5-yard touchdown pass to WR Luke Swan on the Badgers’ opening drive. In the second frame, Donovan found TE Garrett Graham on an 11-yard touchdown strike and later Swan again for a 38-yard score to close out the half.

After a scoreless third quarter, Donovan capped off the scoring with a 1-yard touchdown run giving Wisconsin the 42-21 lead with 10:35 to play. Donovan is now 3-0 as a starter, and has eight career touchdown passes.

The Player of the Week Award is Donovan’s first. Last year the Badgers tallied five weekly awards.
