Head coach Bret Bielema suspended fifth-year senior Jamal Cooper for conduct detrimental to the team.

MADISON – Jamal Cooper, a senior defensive end with the Wisconsin football team, has been suspended indefinitely from the program for conduct detrimental to the team, head coach Bret Bielema announced at the conclusion of practice Friday afternoon.

Cooper played in 12 games for Wisconsin in 2006 -tying for fourth on team with 6.5 TFLs and tied for third with 4.0 QB sacks for 18 yards. Cooper made two solo stops and forced a fumble in win over 12th-ranked Arkansas in Capital One Bowl and was named one of the starting defensive ends by Bret Bielema this past Wednesday, being listed ahead of Kurt Ware who's coming off knee surgery. Cooper will have access to full academic support services, but will no longer be a part of the football program in any other way.
