Former Badger 16th at Boston Marathon Michelle Lilienthal, a former UW distance runner, placed 16th overall and second among American women at the Boston Marathon. She clocked a time of 2 hours, 40 minutes and 23 seconds. Rita Jeptoo, of Kenya, won the race in 2:23.38, while Maine resident Emily LeVan placed 13th in 2:37.01, the top American finisher. This was Lilienthal’s second marathon; she previously placed third in the Philadelphia Marathon last November. Women’s hockey: Badgers celebrate with banquet The UW women’s hockey team, which ended its 36-4-1 season with a national title in hand, held its annual banquet last weekend at Madison’s Edgewater Hotel. At the banquet, the Badgers announced their team award recipients. Junior forward Sara Bauer, the 2006 Patty Kazmaier winner, was named the offensive player of the year for the third straight year. Junior defender Bobbi-Jo Slusar earned defensive player of the year honors, while senior forward Sharon Cole won the Badger Award for the most inspirational player. Junior forward Phoebe Monteleone earned her second Jeff Sauer award, which goes to the most dedicated player. Redshirt freshman Jessie Vetter, the goaltender who gave up one goal in the NCAA Tournament, was named rookie of the year. Senior forward Nikki Burish earned the W Club Community Service Award for her volunteer work with wheelchair hockey, the Ronald McDonald House and the UW Children’s Hospital. Badgers tame Flames 2-0 The Wisconsin softball team defeated Illinois-Chicago 2-0 Wednesday night in Chicago. Junior pitcher Eden Brock led the way, holding the Flames to just two hits while earning her second complete-game shutout and her sixth straight win. Brock is now 14-7 while the Badgers are 18-16. Sophomore shortstop Lynn Anderson and senior designated player Kaitlin Reiss each drove in runs for Wisconsin.
