Just Getting Started

TE/H-Back Adam James

Celina, Texas tight end Adam James has become a hot name on the recruiting scene. The 6-foot-3, 235-pounder, wasn't being recruited very heavily during the '05 season but after a strong showing at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, several schools have stopped to take notice. James is starting to line up his official visits.

"I have a visit lined up with Texas Tech (1-20) this weekend," Adam James said. "I just got off the phone with the Tulsa coaches.

"Tulsa, Boston College and Texas Tech all visited me today.

"Nevada, Texas Tech, Tulsa, Ole Miss, Boston College and Hawaii have offered me a scholarship.

"I'm planning out my official visits right now. Wisconsin is starting to show some interest in me. Oklahoma State and Texas have started to show a lot of interest lately.

"The thing is that I didn't start to get recruited until January and I spent the first part of January in San Antonio."

James is the son of former SMU star and NFL running back Craig James. Adam was blessed with good genes but he didn't start to develop until late in his high school career.

"As a freshman I was 5-foot-9 and I was chubby," James said. "I grew to about 6-foot-1 during my freshman baseball season and I've grown steadily ever since. I'm 6-foot-3 right now and I think I'm fixin' to hit another growth spurt.

"I actually quit football to concentrate on baseball but after going to a few football games, I realized I made the wrong decision so I went back out for the team and played JV ball as a sophomore.

"My junior year, I was about 215 pounds. I made 20 catches but my blocking was very weak. My senior season, I added about 20-25 pounds and I really worked hard in the off-season on my strength. My blocking improved tremendously. I learned a lot about leverage.

"I had about 24 catches for 480 yard and six touchdowns as a senior. We won a state championship and I felt like I had a real good year."

Adam James is a versatile athlete that shows very good hands and speed for a tight end. He's an excellent blocker and that's probably his best strength. We see Adam as being a very good tight end or H-back at the next level.

Check out some highlights from Adam James' senior season, you'll be able to see why he was chosen to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl earlier this month.
