In the polls…

The Badger men's hockey team, for the first time since Oct. 23, 2000, is ranked No. 1 in the country in the U.S. College Hockey Online and USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine poll. This is the first No. 1 ranking for the Badgers under fourth-year head coach Mike Eaves.

The Badgers (11-1-2 overall, 8-0-2 Western Collegiate Hockey Association) upset then-No. 1 Michigan 3-2 and defeated No. 18 Michigan State 3-1 in the College Hockey Showcase last weekend.

WCHA foe Colorado College is No. 2 in the poll, while Michigan falls to No. 3. Minnesota, who the Badgers face this weekend, is at No. 4.

The Wisconsin women's hockey team (12-2-0) fell from No. 1 to No. 4 in the poll after losing to now No. 3 New Hampshire in the Dartmouth Thanksgiving Tournament. St. Lawrence moved up a spot to No. 1, while Minnesota-Duluth also climbed a spot to No. 2. WCHA foe Minnesota remained at No. 5 in the poll.

The Wisconsin football team (9-3) is ranked No. 18 in the latest Bowl Championship Series rankings, which were released Monday. Despite defeating Hawaii 41-24 Friday, the Badgers moved down a spot, from No. 17 to No. 18. The Badgers are ranked No. 20 in the Harris Interactive poll, No. 20 in the coaches poll and No. 18 in the composite computer rankings.

USC is No. 1 in the BCS, followed by No. 2 Texas. Penn State, at No. 3 in the BCS, leads all Big Ten schools. Ohio State comes in at No. 6, while Michigan is 19th and Northwestern is No. 22.

The Badger men's basketball team (4-0) is not ranked in the USA Today/ESPN Top 25 poll but is tied with West Virginia with 72 points received, the most in the receiving votes category. No. 12 Illinois, at 5-0, tops the Big Ten in the USA Today poll, while No. 14 Michigan State, No. 15 Iowa and No. 16 Indiana are also ranked. Illinois is also No. 12 in the Associated Press poll, with Michigan State at No. 13, Iowa at No. 14 and Indiana at No. 17. Wisconsin has 76 points in the receiving votes category.

The Badger volleyball team (23-6) moved up one spot in the CSTV/American Volleyball Coaches Association poll, from No. 14 to No. 13. The Badgers defeated Northwestern and Indiana last week to finish second in the Big Ten, behind No. 2 Penn State. Minnesota is No. 17, Ohio State is No. 19 and Purdue is No. 21 in this week's poll.

In the Rich Kern Percentage Index volleyball rankings, Wisconsin is No. 3 in the Mideast Region and No. 12 overall.

UW wins Big Ten Player of the Week awards

The Badger football team earned conference offensive, defensive and special teams honors after being the only Big Ten team to compete last weekend. The Badgers defeated Hawaii 41-24 in Honolulu last Friday.

Quarterback John Stocco was named the offensive player of the week, will linebacker Dontez Sanders earned defensive honors and kicker Taylor Mehlhaff picked up special teams honors. Recommended Stories
