Gillette receives conference honor
Wisconsin junior catcher Boo Gillette was named third-team
All-Big Ten Wednesday.
Gillette set Badger single-season records with 34 RBI and
14 doubles. She was also second on the squad with a .328 batting average. In Big
Ten play, Gillette led the Badgers with a .290 average, two home runs, 10 RBI
and a .435 slugging percentage.
Women’s golf announces team awards
Wisconsin senior golfer Malinda Johnson was named the
team’s Most Valuable Player at the team’s awards banquet. Johnson broke her own
school single-season scoring record this year with a 74.33 average. She also set
the school’s career record at 76.19.
The Badgers’ only senior, Johnson finished fourth at the
Big Ten Championships and placed 10th at the NCAA Central Regional
last weekend, just missing the cut for the NCAA Championship.
Johnson also won the Badger Leadership Award and the
putting award.
Freshman Nicki Morse also won three awards: the Newcomer
Award for the lowest tournament average for a first-year Badger (80.3); the
Badger Power Award for excellence in the weight room; and a hole-in-one award
recognizing her ace at the Legends of Indiana Tournament Oct. 7.
Junior Sami Forster, who averaged 83.3 per round this year,
was named the team’s Most Improved Player. Forster posted career-best rounds of
18 (77), 36 (160) and 54 holes (249).
