Wisconsin's Jill Odenthal has been named to the American Volleyball
Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Mideast Region team. The junior outside hitter
was second among Badgers this season with 3.58 kills per game, a .307 hitting
percentage and 48 service aces. She also averaged 1.66 digs and 0.33 blocks per
game and was previously named to the All-Big Ten team.
Bruckler earns WCHA honor
Wisconsin goaltender Bernd Brückler was named WCHA Defensive Player of the
Week Tuesday. Bruckler led the Badgers to a three-point weekend at Denver Dec.
5-6, stopping 53 of 56 Pioneer shots.
Brückler has a 7-3-4 record and a 2.42 goals-against average this season.
Wisconsin next faces off with Minnesota State Friday and Saturday at the Kohl
Center.
Sarnecki swimmer of the week
Sophomore Amalia Sarnecki was named the Big Ten Female Swimmer of the Week,
Tuesday. At the prestigious Texas Invitational last week Sarnecki posted an
automatic qualifying standard for the 2004 NCAA Championships with a time of
2:13.55 in the 200-yard breaststroke. Sarnecki also topped her own school record
in the 100-yard breaststroke by finishing in 1:02.44.
In addition to her individual exploits, she also contributed to strong Badger
efforts in the relays. Swimming the breaststroke leg, Sarnecki helped the
400-yard medley relay team top a five-year-old school record with a NCAA
provisional qualifying mark of 3:41.50. She was also a member of the 200-yard
medley relay squad that earned another “B” cut with a time of 1:41.43.
