Wilson earns tourney MVP, Ashbaugh contributes 22 in win over Butler

Score by half The women’s basketball team won its first tournament title in two years when it knocked off Butler 61-46 in the Conesto/Coconut Grove Thanksgiving Classic Saturday night.

Wisconsin sophomore forward Jordan Wilson earned tournament MVP honors after contributing 13 points and 15 rebounds off the bench in Saturday's championships. Wilson, along with sophomore guard Ashley Josephson, made the all-tournament team.

Against Butler (1-4 overall), the Badgers (2-1) dominated, led by Wilson, senior center Emily Ashbaugh, who had a season-high 22 points and 10 rebounds, and senior forward/center Lello Gebisa, who had 12 points and eight rebounds. The trio outscored and outrebounded the entire Butler team.

Although the game was neck-and-neck early on, the Badgers had an 11-2 run in the first half to jump ahead of the Bulldogs and never look back. The Bulldogs came back just before the half, making it a 26-20 game when the buzzer sounded but struggled early in the second period. Although they pulled to within four points midway through the second half, the Badgers held on and broke away for the 61-46 win.
