Madden Gives Dad Perfect Father's Day Gift

Wisconsin added to its 2015 offensive line haul on Sunday when Barnegat (NJ) offensive tackle Sam Madden - with his dad at his side - pledged his commitment to the Badgers.

Accompanying his son on his first visit to Wisconsin, Dave Madden was planning on watching his son - Barnegat (NJ) offensive tackle Sam Madden - visit with the coaching staff, tour the town and get a better picture of the Badgers before moving on to the next school on their evaluation list.

With so many suitors and visit plans coming after his visit to Madison, he never expected his massive 6-7, 325-pound boy to decide this weekend.

"Wisconsin and a couple other schools were at the top of his board," Dave Madden told BadgerNation. "I didn't expect him to commit to be honest with you and we actually told a couple other programs this month we were going to see them. He thought about committing (Saturday) and I told him if there any place that you love you should take it.

"It is not going to get any better than Wisconsin. It is a premiere football team, program and tradition especially from the stand point of the offensive line. There is no better offensive line in the country."

The first of three commitments on Sunday, Madden is the No. 65 ranked offensive tackle and a three star recruit, who committed to the Badgers over roughly two dozen other offers from high-level programs like Miami, Nebraska, South Carolina and Virginia Tech.

Arriving on Saturday morning and touring the town, the Maddens spent the day meeting with Wisconsin head coach Gary Andersen and offensive line coach T.J. Woods, conversations that began to really sell the two of them on committing that weekend.

"We had a lot of conversations, but what really tied us up was the talk with Coach Woods and Coach Andersen," Madden said. "They talked about the future of the team and it was what we were looking for. It all kind of came together. We really talked about it (Saturday) night and knew going to place there wasn't any other he would rather be in the world."

Not only was it amazing to watch his son to commit to Wisconsin, it became the perfect Father's Day gift.

"It is pretty neat he committed because I didn't realize it was Father's Day this weekend and my wife reminded me that I wasn't going to be here on Father's Day," said Madden. "It was pretty special and it was very special to it happen on Father's Day."
