Orr Joins the Fold

Having an idea that he could commit on his unofficial visit to Wisconsin, De Soto (TX) High linebacker Chris Orr went with his gut and joined the Badgers' 2015 recruiting class.

MADISON - De Soto (TX) High linebacker Chris Orr made no attempt to hide his excitement heading into his weekend visit at the University of Wisconsin, even going so far as having the idea of committing in his back of his head.

After a couple days on campus, he followed his gut.

Naming Wisconsin his leader going into the trip, Orr loved the people, the town and saw a perfect fit with the school, leading to his verbal commitment to the coaching staff.

He's the 10th commitment in the 2015 recruiting class, the fourth for UW in June and continues the Badgers recent hot streak in the state of Texas. After not landing a player from the Lone Star State in almost six years, the Badgers have landed three sleeper prospects in less than two weeks.

Orr was offered on Memorial Day weekend and has been recruited by secondary coach Bill Busch.

"I was extremely excited because of the style of defense they play and that Chris Borland was one of my favorite linebackers," Orr said about the UW offer. "(Coach Busch) talked to me about how I could come in and play early also how my first collegiate game would be against Alabama in AT&T Stadium."

The 6-0, 190-pound athletic linebacker – ranked a two-star prospect by Scout.com - held offers from Nevada and North Texas. He also was getting interest from Arkansas and Missouri.

Linebacker is one of the many priorities Wisconsin head coach Gary Andersen and defensive coordinator Dave Aranda had entering the 2015 recruiting cycle, mainly because the Badgers are losing five scholarship linebackers and the future status of committed linebacker Dominic Cizauskas is unknown because of pending legal problems.

The Badgers have already made headway addressing the problem, as the coaching staff accepted a verbal commitment from Bradenton (FL) IMG Academy middle linebacker Nick Thomas earlier this month.

BadgerNation will have more from Orr shortly
