Indispensable Badger #20

Counting down the days to Wisconsin opens training camp, Badger Nation's new summer feature will rank the 50 most indispensable players of the 2013 Wisconsin football team. Today we reveal No.20.

Darius Hillary

Position: Cornerback

2012 Stats: Playing in all 14 games … Finished with 23 tackles (16 solo) and two passes defended … Career-high eight tackles (five solo) against UTEP.

Experience: Redshirt Sophomore

Strengths: Hillary is a quick cornerback that has always had good speed. He has great hands, thanks to his wide receiving background in high school, and will cause plenty of problems for opposing receivers.

Weaknesses: Although Hillary has great hands, he has not used them quite as much as the coaching staff would like. He needs to work on causing havoc in the air and challenging 50-50 balls.

Overall: Being redshirted his freshman year, Hillary was able to gain plenty of knowledge throughout his time at Wisconsin studying under Marcus Cromartie, Antonio Fenelus and Devin Smith. The multiple position changes were tough at the beginning but Hillary seems to have found his position. With the collegiate experience that Hillary has (getting playing time in 14 games last year after Peniel Jean went down with an injury), he will enter fall camp as the starting cornerback opposite Jean.

Hillary is a quick defender that has the ability to cause plenty of excitement on the field. Look for Hillary to shine this year and impact the defense plenty of times this season.

Up Next: Adding experience and depth, our No.19 player will be an important part in keeping Wisconsin's 3-4 defense – and the pressure that comes with it – clicking on all cylinders
