Thrilled by Wisconsin

Dalton Schultz (Fox Sports Next)

The top tight end in the country, South Jordan (UT) Bingham junior tight end Dalton Schultz is thrilled to be able to boast he has an offer from Wisconsin

Known for its physical, smash-mouth football, Wisconsin executes its style on offense by having multidimensional tight ends that can run block and make plays in the secondary. South Jordan (UT) Bingham junior tight end Dalton Schultz fits that billing.

Currently sitting the No. 1 tight end in the nation by Scout.com, Schultz's big jump from his sophomore to junior year is a reason scouts and recruiters have taken notice.

"I got a lot quicker in my game and I gained 10 or 15 pound," Schultz told Badger Nation. "I also gained that football knowledge and felt comfortable in what I was doing. It made me feel very confident in my abilities to go out there and perform unlike my sophomore year, where I was kind of nervous because I didn't know what to expect and everybody was kind of really big."

The 6-6, 230-pound Schultz has seen his recruitment pick up along with his game. A humble athlete holding 15 offers, Schultz admits only four offers would be plenty for him, but his newest offer from Wisconsin is one that got him really excited.

"I got an offer from Wisconsin the other night, so my recruitment has been pretty crazy," Schultz said. "I gave Coach Chad (Kauha'aha'a) a call and we talked for a little bit. He got straight to the point and told me that the University of Wisconsin would like to offer me a scholarship.

"The offer was definitely unexpected, but you could say I was excited when I got that offer (laughing). He talked about how he wanted to check up on me every couple of weeks because he doesn't want to be that coach that is nagging me every week or every day. I like that and respect that."

Located just over 90 minutes from the campus of Utah State, Schultz is familiar with Wisconsin coach Gary Andersen and the staff Andersen brought with him from the Aggies program.

"Coach Andersen knows me pretty well and went down to a 7-on-7 last year to see me perform," Schultz said. "It is kind of cool that the Wisconsin coaches are from Utah. It is not a factor for me knowing these coaches, though."

While Schultz stands as the top prospect in Utah this recruiting year, he is very familiar with arguably the top talent in the state for 2015 in Salt Lake City (UT) Brighton Osa Masina, who also holds an early offer from Wisconsin. Teammates in past 7-on-7 tournaments, Schultz is a big fan of Masina.

"I have been friends with Osa for awhile," Schultz said. "I am close friends with his brother, Wyatt, when I met him. I have been competing against Osa in basketball for awhile and we know each other. We have become good friends and it would be cool to be playing together as Utah kids playing for the same college."

Schultz is planning on making a week-long trip to the Nike Camp in San Francisco and tentatively thinking about driving along the West Coast to see multiple schools. He would also like to narrow down his choices within a few weeks of his senior season.
