Gesicki Hoping for Wisconsin Offer

Gesicki Hoping for Wisconsin Offer

Wisconsin's offense thrives on elite tight ends, something Manahawin (NJ) Southern High junior tight end Mike Gesicki recognizes and is anxious to learn more about on a campus visit this week.

MADISON - With the new coaching staff being adamant that the core of their offense won's change, Wisconsin will need to continue to recruit elite tight ends. Knowing that, Manahawin (NJ.) Southern High junior tight end Mike Gesicki seems to be a perfect fit and that is very evident after his record breaking season.

"I broke the school record for catches and yards in a season with 50 catches for 1,000 yards," Gesicki told Badger Nation. "We lost in the state championship, but overall we got a lot done."

The 6-6, 225-pound Gesicki holds offers from Rutgers, Boston College, Old Dominion and Bucknell for football and basketball. Although he has dual-sport capabilities, Gesicki sees a bigger future for him in football. That was evident with the pace of his recruitment, which also includes building a relationship with Wisconsin and running back coach Thomas Hammock.

"It's going well and it's really been heating up," said Gesicki. "I talk with Coach Hammock a lot and they are very interested in me. I will be up there either Tuesday or Thursday this week due to basketball. Our relationship is great. He's a great guy and I love talking to him. He's awesome and a phenomenal coach, look at his history with his backs.

"I know they have a great history of football and play in the Rose Bowl year after year and that's awesome. I hope they offer because I know I can go there, make plays, help them get to the Rose Bowl and win it."

With college coaches finding out about this gem, it is no secret anymore of how good Gesicki's game has grown through his hard work.

"I catch the ball away from body," said Gesicki. "That is my main specialty instead of catching the ball with my body and I got out and get the ball. I have the potential to make big plays and help out an offense from any pass catching position."

In addition to Wisconsin, Gesicki just returned from Maryland and Notre Dame. Recommended Stories
