Straub Ready to Show His Stuff

Ames (Iowa) 2014 quarterback Sam Straub is hearing from more and more schools and recently took in an in-state junior day. Now he has his sights set on summer camps where he will look to show colleges what he can do.

As a junior at Ames High, Sam Straub passed for 2,632 yards and 24 touchdowns while rushing for five more. With his 6'3, 210-lb frame and that production, he's a prospect colleges are becoming increasingly interested in.

The interest begins close to home, and he recently visited an in-state program.

"I attended the Iowa State Elite Junior Day last Saturday," he said, "and it was very informative and encouraging. I was one of 15 kids invited. They told me to come to spring practices as well as to attend as many position meetings as I wanted this spring. I plan to take them up on that offer."

Other schools are also beginning to invite Straub to their summer camps, where they can evaluate him in person. He has no problem making those trips.

"Michigan State emailed me that they really liked my film but they had already offered five quarterbacks. They invited me to their one day camp on June 16 and told me they would keep me in mind if anything changed for them."

Straub's spring and summer calendar is beginning to fill up, but he is ready to show these coaches what he can do.

"I heard back from Wisconsin who said they liked what they saw on my film and wanted to watch me throw in person at their camp this summer. I also just heard back from South Dakota State who said they wanted to watch me throw in person. I am excited about these opportunities to show my skills. "

Straub also plans to attend the NIKE Football Training Camp in Chicago and the Sound Mind, Sound Body Camp in Detroit. Recommended Stories
