A Full-Out Blitzer

D.J. Calhoun is looking at Wisconsin (Fox Sports)

After getting two California natives late in the 2013 recruiting process, Wisconsin and its new coaching staff appear committed to recruiting the state's high school football hotbed. That is good news for El Cerrito junior linebacker D.J. Calhoun.

MADISON - Wisconsin is no stranger to California as new coach Gary Andersen went straight to work and hit the recruiting trail. That resulted in two late commitments from California in the 2013 signing class and that philosophy is turning over to 2013. El Cerrito (CA.) junior linebacker D.J. Calhoun is a prime player to fill what the Badgers are wanting in their new 3-4 defense.

The 6-1, 205-pound Calhoun - rated an early three-star recruit and the No. 19 outside linebacker in the country by Scout.com – exploded on the recruiting scene with his stellar 110-tackle junior season and first-team all-league defensive most valuable player.

With early offers from Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Nebraska, Washington, UCLA and Utah, Calhoun has reached out to get information on Wisconsin.

"I just want to know more about them with Wisconsin being such a great school and program," Calhoun told Badger Nation. "I know (teammate) Adarius (Pickett) has been getting things from them and we have talked about playing together. We are very much trying to play with each other."

Calhoun is likely to visit Washington, Arizona and California in the spring, but brought up the possibility of taking a Wisconsin visit in the future. Wanting to decide on a school before his senior year is over, Calhoun hopes that the passion he has for the game will be what impressed college coaches the most.

"I play the game like nobody can get me," he said. "I play full out and I try not to take a few plays off if I am tired. I can't let that stop (me) and (if) anything in my way, I am going to hit. That is what football is to me on defense (and) on the line. I like to hurt people."
