MADISON - Looking to add a ready-made piece to Wisconsin’s 2013 recruiting class in the secondary, Coach Gary Andersen got the junior college prospect he was looking for in Fresno (CA) City College safety Donnell Vercher.
Originally recruited at Utah State by Andersen and his staff, including defensive coordinator Dave Aranda, Vercher was set to officially announce his college choice with teammate Duron Singleton at a school signing ceremony Wednesday morning.
“Wisconsin is going to be the fit for me,” Vercher said in a text to Fox Sports Next.
The 6-2 and 195-pound Vercher had 23 tackles and eight interceptions this past season. A one-time Fresno State commit, Vercher turned down scholarship offers from Fresno State and Syracuse after taking an official visit to Wisconsin over the weekend.
Vercher is the 20th verbal commit to Wisconsin’s 2013 recruiting and the 17th on full scholarship. The Badgers are still in play for three-star Westerville (OH) South safety Marcus Ball. Originally committing to Wisconsin during the season, the soft verbal commit will pick between Wisconsin and Arizona State tomorrow.
