Masina Reflects on Wisconsin Offer

It appears the state of Utah will have a big Wisconsin presence under head coach Gary Andersen. Days after offering one of the state's best sophomore quarterbacks, Wisconsin offers Salt Lake City Brighton sophomore athlete Osa Masina.

MADISON - Wisconsin is not waiting around to hit the 2015 recruiting class, especially with the connections Gary Andersen and his staff have in Utah. Salt Lake City Brighton 2015 athlete Osa Masina had a week to remember last week with numerous of schools getting hold of him and in the process picking up a Badger offer.

I was at basketball practice, which I also play basketball and track too, but was just really excited and "Coach Chad Kauha'aha'a came to my school to talk to me," Masina told Badger Nation. "My high school coach told me that they were thinking of offering me, so I got very excited. They talked to my mom through an email and told me to call them. I was at home with my mom, dad and little brother and we called them up. We talked to Coach Kauha'aha'a and he told me he wanted to offer me a scholarship to play at Wisconsin. He talked to my family and my dad was really proud of me. It was a great time."

Kauha'aha'a has made a splash recruiting many Polynesian players, including recruiting older brother Uaea Masina to Utah, and has already made a great first initial impression on Masina.

"He seemed like a really nice guy and someone who is very interested in me," Masina said. "He made it very clear the Wisconsin wants me and he talked to my family, which I really liked that. That was really cool of him to talk to my family and he seemed like a great guy and good coach."

Wisconsin joins BYU and Utah in early offers for the 6-2, 200-pound sophomore. Masina also says him and his family is getting mail from Boise State, Colorado, Notre Dame, Penn State, San Diego State and Stanford. In addition to Wisconsin, coaches from BYU, Idaho, Notre Dame, Stanford and Utah stopped by Masina's school.

"Me and my dad were talking about getting that Wisconsin offer and how huge it is, as a sophomore getting a Big Ten offer from a huge school and such a great program," Masina said. "It is just huge, but that means I have to keep working harder and hopefully get some more.

"I don't know really a lot about the program and the school, but I am really open to learning about them more. I would like to go down and check a couple camps and go on the campus. I really want to learn about Wisconsin a lot. The offer was out of the blue and I was not expecting it. I know Gary Andersen came from Utah State, but it was really of the blue, but still exciting."

Playing linebacker, running back, wide receiver and wildcat quarterback, Maina was a second team all-state and all-region selection at outside linebacker. He hopes to start showcasing his skills this summer on the camp circuit.

"My season was great," he said. "I played a little bit of everywhere and this was my first year of ever playing varsity at punt returner and kick returner, so I thought I did pretty good.

"I am going to try to make it to a couple of camps and see which ones I can get, too. I know we are trying to go to the Wisconsin, Stanford and Notre Dame camp."
