2014 Intro: Austin Roberts

Rice Lake (Wisc.) linebacker Austin Roberts is a junior to watch in the Badger state. Through two seasons, he has put up monstrous numbers and is fielding interest from a number of top schools.

In two varsity seasons, Austin Roberts has 262 tackles, eight sacks and ten forced fumbles. At 6'3, 220-lbs, he has the size to go with the athleticism and aggressiveness he shows on tape. Several schools have noted his talents and have started their recruiting of him.

"I am currently hearing from Wisconsin, Minnesota, Yale, Iowa State, Northwestern, Penn State, Missouri, South Dakota State, Bucknell, and Dartmouth," he said.

As active as he was on the field making tackles, Roberts was just as busy getting from college to college for both camps and visits.

"Last summer I went to camp at Iowa State, Wisconsin, Northwestern, Illinois, Notre Dame, Minnesota, and finally again at Iowa State. I visited Minnesota, Wisconsin and Iowa State twice all for game day visits."

The Golden Gophers started off the unofficial visits for Roberts and set a high bar for the others to match.

"Minnesota was great, it was my first recruiting trip so I did not know what to expect, but I had a lot of fun."

As for Madison, Roberts said, "Wisconsin was a blast as well. After the game I got to go into the locker room and speak with Coach Buh, who I had met at camp this summer. Unfortunately he took a job at California, but I will be trying to contact him there as soon as I can."

Then there were the two visits to Iowa State, where Roberts says the Cyclones really rolled out the red carpet.

"I felt the most at home at Iowa State. I knew many people on the coaching staff from this summer and, especially on my second trip, they treated me like part of the family. "

This off-season will be more of the same, as Roberts looks to again fill his calendar with camps in hopes of earning scholarship opportunities.

"This summer I plan on returning to Iowa State, Minnesota, Wisconsin, and Northwestern for camp. I also am thinking of going to Iowa, Nebraska, and possibly California. I will not be attending any Junior days this spring. I have been invited to several, but I will be wrestling in the conference tournament on the weekend that most of them are being held. I am training to win the state tournament this February, which I believe I have a great shot at doing."

Roberts earned 1st team All-State as voted by the Wisconsin Football Coaches Association this year.
