Spring Game Set For Queen City

Paul Brown Stadium

Urban Meyer's second spring game will be played in Cincinnati. The Buckeyes will play at the home of the NFL's Bengals, Paul Brown Stadium, on April 13.

The Ohio State football team will be taking a field trip to Southwest Ohio for the 2013 edition of the Buckeyes' spring game, which will be held April 13 at Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati.

Officials from Ohio State, the Cincinnati Bengals and Hamilton Country made the rumored site-change official Friday afternoon.

"I would like to thank Cincinnati Bengals owner Mike Brown and representatives from Hamilton County for working with us to make this 2013 Ohio State spring game in Cincinnati a reality," Ohio State athletic director Gene Smith said in a release. "We are very appreciative to be able to bring the Buckeyes into Cincinnati and closer to our fans in the southern Ohio region."

Added Brown: "When Gene called earlier this year to talk about this I was hopeful that this would come together. This is a unique opportunity for local Buckeye fans to get a first look at the 2013 team."

The venue change comes because of renovations of Ohio Stadium. A resurfacing project in the seating areas is scheduled to begin in January. OSU head coach Urban Meyer is a 1986 graduate of the University of Cincinnati, where he played for the Bearcats while earning a degree in psychology.

More recently, Meyer and his coaching staff have said the Queen City is important for Ohio State in terms of recruiting.

"Cincinnati is a wonderful city full of great people," Meyer said. "I think it is great that we are able to bring the Buckeyes into a part of the state where we haven't been for a while, and I am looking forward to the team having the opportunity to play in Paul Brown Stadium."

Ohio State last played in Cincinnati during the 2002 national championship season. They Buckeyes outlasted upset-minded UC at Paul Brown Stadium, taking a 23-19 victory in front of 66,319 on Sept. 21, 2002. The home of the Bengals opened in 2000 and is located on the banks of the Ohio River near downtown Cincinnati.

"We are excited to host the OSU spring game here in Hamilton County at Paul Brown Stadium," said Hamilton County Commission President Greg Hartmann. "The game will be a fun, exciting way to showcase both the Ohio State Buckeyes and our top-notch Paul Brown Stadium."

Reserved seat tickets will go on sale at a date to be determined in 2013 and at that time will be available online at OhioStateBuckeyes.com, charge by phone at 1-800-745-3000, in person at the Athletics Ticket Office in the Schottenstein Center, or at any Ticketmaster location. Ticket prices will be $18 for club seats, $12 for general public and $5 for ages 2 through 6.
