O'Brien a Finalist for Multiple COY Honors

Maxwell Club of Philadelphia is the latest group to announce Penn State's first-year coach as one of nation's best.

Penn State's Bill O'Brien was named Big Ten Coach of the Year last week. This week, the Nittany Lions' first-year head man finds himself on the mix for several national COY awards.

On Wednesday, O'Brien was announced as one of three finalists for the Maxwell Club Collegiate Coach of the Year Award. There other two finalists are Notre Dame's Brian Kelly and Kansas State's Bill Snyder.

Earlier this week, O'Brien was named:

• A finalist for the 2012 Liberty Mutual Coach of the Year Award. Kelly, Snyder, Urban Meyer (Ohio State), Jim Mora Jr. (UCLA), Mark Richt (Georgia), Nick Saban (Alabama), Charlie Strong (Lousiville), Kevin Sumlin (Texas A&M) and Dabo Swinney (Clemson) are the other finalists.

• A finalist for the Football Writers Association of America Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award. Kelly, Meyer, Snyder, Sumlin, Gary Andersen (Utah State), Dave Doeren (Northern Illinois), Will Muschamp (Florida) and David Shaw (Stanford) as the other finalists.

O'Brien is also on the watch list for the Bear Bryant Coach of the Year Award.
