Bunte enjoys time in Tempe

OL Erik Bunte

Mission Viejo (Calif.) offensive lineman Erik Bunte took an unofficial visit to Arizona State over the weekend and said he hopes to return for an official trip later in the year.

Erik Bunte was an early commit to UCLA but decided to give Arizona State a look and had a good time in Tempe.

"It was a great, I had a really good time," Bunte said. "Tempe is a great town, and I loved the new coaching staff there. You can tell they're building a strong foundation for the future and they're going to be really good. I enjoyed the game a lot and then talking with the coaches was great as well.

"I was only there for an unofficial trip so I didn't get to go on any of the campus tours but I still got to walk around a little with Coach Connelly and Coach Long. I met all the offensive linemen and they're all a great group of guys. I'm definitely planning to return for an official visit and hopefully I'll set that date up soon."

Bunte had to sit out the Diablos recent playoff game over the weekend against Long Beach Poly in which the Jackrabbits shocked Mission Viejo pulling off the upset.

"I rolled my ankle against Westlake the week before," Bunte said. "I'm in a walking boot and had to sit out the Poly game. I went to the doctor today and I'm good to go now but it was very hard to sit and watch the team play when I couldn't be out there.

"I wanted to be out there helping the team but I gave every ounce I had in the Westlake game and had to stay off against Poly. Poly played really well that night and we made a few mistakes and gave up some big plays. We played hard but just couldn't pull out the win. That's the Pac 5 for you, anyone can win this thing." Bunte said he's hopeful of setting up his official visit to UCLA very shortly.

"I'm going to call Coach Klemm Tuesday and try and set it up for the Stanford game this weekend," Bunte said. "The last time I talked with him, I forgot to try and set that up so I'll hopefully do that and then go from there."
