Gasser Done for the Season

Gasser tore his ACL in practice

No.23 Wisconsin hasn't played an exhibition game, yet the Badgers suffer a huge personnel loss when junior point guard Josh Gasser - the presumed starter for UW this season - tears his ACL in practice Saturday and is ruled out for the season.

MADISON – Wisconsin junior guard Josh Gasser suffered a tear to his anterior cruciate ligament during practice and will miss the entire 2012-13 season, the UW Sports Medicine Staff announced Saturday.

Gasser, who played in each of his first two seasons in Madison, will use his redshirt season in 2012-13. He will have two seasons of eligibility remaining.

Projected to be the Badgers' starting point guard, Gasser was injured during the team's practice session Saturday morning at the Kohl Center. He will be re-evaluated this week and is expected to undergo surgery shortly thereafter.

Wisconsin will now look for junior guard Ben Brust or redshirt freshman George Marshall, who ran point guard on the scout team last season, to take over the spot.

Gasser has started 66 games for the Badgers in his first two seasons, averaging 6.8 points and 4.06 rebounds per game. He averaged 34.1 minutes for UW last season, contributing 7.6 points per game and shooting 45.2 percent from 3-point range.
