Wisconsin 'Close to the Top' for Hayes

The Wisconsin football team wasn't the only program to take advantage of beautiful weather and a rowdy Camp Randall atmosphere on Saturday, as Wisconsin basketball hosted three-star Toledo (OH) Whitmer power forward Nigel Hayes.

MADISON - Wisconsin had many visitors on hand for its season opener verse Northern Iowa and, ironically, one of the top targets happened to come from the hardwood in Toledo (OH) Whitmer power forward Nigel Hayes.

"It went really well," Hayes told Badger Nation. "It was fun playing with the team the other recruits. It was a good open gym session. I enjoyed it a lot.

For the open gym session, playing with current, future and former member of the Wisconsin basketball team, Hayes came out on the winning end of the equation, but thought he could have been better.

"The team I was on was winning most of the games, of course," said Hayes, with a laugh. "I think I did alright and I was a little rusty. It was my first playing full court in awhile."

In addition to going to Wisconsin's home football game, Hayes spent time with Badgers coach Bo Ryan at his house.

"It was great," said Hayes. "We had Italian and we met each other families. We talked about his old players and coaching. We also talked about how good of a basketball player he was himself."

The host for Hayes during his visit was George Marshall, as the two spent more of the weekend hanging out together and with other members of the team.

"We just hanged out with the team and some of the girls' team, so it was really fun," said Hayes. "They were also very welcoming."

The visits are not stopping for Hayes, as he already has three more visits right around the corner. After heading to Minnesota next weekend, Hayes will visit Stanford on September 28 and Ohio State on October 6.

After having experienced everything at Madison, where does it put Wisconsin for Hayes now?

"I think I have Wisconsin very close (to the top) after my visit to them," said Hayes.
