Pennsylvania TB Considering Wisconsin
Anthony Heygood, a 6-1, 210-pound senior, has offers from Wisconsin, Boston College, West Virginia and the latest addition, Purdue (the Boilermakers offered last week).
A 3.8 student, Heygood is focused in the classroom, and one of the top factors in his decision is weighing kiniesiology programs against one another. He has a visit scheduled to Notre Dame later this month, which will be his first unofficial visit to any college program. He also is in the process of scheduling a trip to West Virginia.
Heygood said his list of offers could be expanding soon.
"The last two weeks have been hectic," Heygood said. "A lot of schools have been coming by, but they're not allowed to talk to me officially. But they've been coming, and letting me know they were there."
Heygood, who rushed for 900 yards and 12 touchdowns last year after missing the first three games of the season with an MCL tear, lists Terrell Davis and Mike Alstott as the backs he admires and compares his game to.
"I'm more of a power runner, but if I can get to the corner, I can break away," Heygood said.
Heygood said Wisconsin is definitely in the mix for his services, although he hasn't planned a trip out to Madison yet.
"Right now, I feel strong about them. On one of the official phone calls, I talked to (Offensive Coordinator Brian White). He said the last (10) years they've had a 1,000-yard rusher. They will most likely break the streak this year, but they have consistent 1,000-yard rushers. It seems like they have a good coaching staff, and they definitely run the ball a lot…I wouldn't say the location is a negative, but I do want to play in a warmer climate. But if I go there, I could deal with it."
This fall will see some dramatic changes for Heygood. His high school is switching to a Wing-T offense, and he is also playing defense for the first time. He will start at both tailback and outside linebacker, where he can take advantage of his 4.49 speed.
"I've been wanting to play defense my entire high school career. Before high school I played defense, and now I get to play it again," Heygood said. "But tailback is my (best position), and that's where every school is recruiting me."
